Alarm Magazine

April 2013 to
December 2014

I started Alarm Magazine as an intern, working for three months in their office as an on-call resource for writing, fact-checking and proofreading short web articles. Instead of working in a “newsroom” setting, however, I was seated among the company’s advertising executives, which forced me to hone my individual work ethic. After my in-office stint, I became a contributing writer on a freelance basis, branching out into content meant for the bi-monthly print magazine as well, including artist interviews and features.

The topics I covered at Alarm were often niche and obscure, with many outside of my comfort zone at the time. Additionally, I stretched to include a variety of non-music, lifestyle topics. This was ultimately a rewarding experience that gave me a chance to develop my research skills when confronted with unfamiliar topics.
